Host Commentary

…and welcome back. That was Scry by Anne Ivy.

When I offered to guest host a Tales from the Vault, I was told that I could choose any of the first 750 Podcastle stories that hadn’t already been rerun. 750 stories! Before I even started to consider the list, my brain popped out “Scry”. Who am I to argue with the neurons… The odd thing is, I hadn’t listened to Scry since it first ran on Podcastle over 12 years ago. That’s 644 stories ago! I’ve been a Podcastle listener from the beginning, so why this story? Why had Scry wormed its way so deeply into my brain?

As I relistened to it, it all came flooding back. Scry is an excellent story. There are mystery and suspense, which I love almost as much as Fantasy and Science Fiction. But fundamentally stories impact us most when we relate to the characters, and back in 2013, I was going through something similar to what Esthe was, feeling similar emotions. I had forgotten that part, but I remembered that the story was important to me. I hope the stories we run are meaningful for you too.
